Optimization for Private Fleets

More from every mile.

A private fleet is judged on service and on control of its own capacity. Freight Science plans across every site and every fleet you run — honoring the driver bids, home time and schedules your drivers already have — so more of the company's freight moves on the trucks you already own, and the capacity left over starts offsetting what the fleet costs to run.

The order

A private fleet earns its keep only after the company's own freight moves on time.

A fleet cannot offset what it costs to own until its own freight is moving on time, until it can see and plan every truck across every site, and until more of the company's work is going through the same assets. Margin is the destination, and it is the last thing to arrive.

That is one line, not four projects, and every fleet is standing somewhere on it. A fleet still reconciling driver bids by hand is not a fleet that has to go fix itself first. We start from where you are.

How it works

Your drivers and tractors can carry more than they carry today.

The truck that solves today's problem is often parked in another fleet.

Plan across every fleet and business unit you run, not one at a time. Loads match to the asset that can take them, wherever it sits and whoever it reports to.

A bid your drivers won means nothing if the plan ignores it.

Static and dynamic driver bids are constraints the assignment is solved against, so the plan comes back already honoring them — not reconciled by hand after dispatch has already committed the truck. Home time is planned in reverse from when the driver has to be home.

A five-stop store run and a single-drop interplant move want the same tractor.

Direct-to-store, distribution center and interplant work have different shapes and different urgency. Set the priority once and the plan holds it on every load, instead of the tradeoff being made from memory by whoever is on shift.

What the plan is built on

The plan runs on your locations and your drivers, not on a two-hour default.

Every truck you run already reports, and you already own the systems that hold the result. What none of them has a field for is how your locations and your drivers behave. The Operating Model holds that, and reads the systems you already pay for.

  • True on-time windows and tolerances, not just appointment times.

  • Real dwell by location and time of day, not a two-hour default.

  • Your drivers' schedules, home time and restrictions.

  • Historical transit by lane and hour, not a flat 55 mph.

The far end

A truck you already own can cover a leg the company would otherwise buy on the market.

Where two of your networks overlap, a leg coming home empty on one can be covered by demand from the other — and the freight on both ends is already the company's own. Every repositioning move is priced and visible by fleet, lane and location, so the deadhead you are absorbing out of habit stops being invisible.

Company freight comes first, always. A private fleet is not in business to haul other people's freight and we are not going to tell you otherwise. This is what the fleet does with capacity it has already paid for, once its own work is covered — and it is the last thing to build, not the first.

“Our customers are looking for a high quality service with on-time pickup and delivery. We do this better than our competition. Freight Science enables us to do this while honoring our drivers’ home time requests, leading to low driver turnover.”
